Bringing fast5 to Christchurch

It was a great honour for Papiermache to work on behalf of World Netball to bring the FAST5 Netball World Series to New Zealand. For three years, this international event took centre stage in Christchurch, bringing together the world’s top six ranked countries for two action-packed days of fast-paced netball, entertainment and global competition. As the official marketing agency for the series, Papiermache worked across every stage of the event – from strategy and brand development through to advertising, content, social media and live event delivery.

Bringing an international netball event to life

FAST5 is not traditional netball. It is faster, louder and built around entertainment, with shorter games, multiple-point scoring and an atmosphere designed to keep audiences engaged from the first whistle to the last. The marketing and creative direction needed to reflect that energy.

Our role was to build a strong, recognisable event identity and apply it consistently across the full experience – from the campaign people saw before the event to the court, signage, ball and venue assets they encountered once they arrived. Every touchpoint needed to feel connected and unmistakably FAST5.

Building the FAST5 event brand

Papiermache led the creative direction and branding for the New Zealand series, developing a visual approach that captured the speed, intensity and entertainment of the format. The event identity was then brought to life across a wide range of physical and digital assets, including:

  • The FAST5 court

  • Match balls

  • Venue signage

  • Campaign creative

  • Digital advertising

  • Social media content

  • Event collateral

  • Photography and videography

The scale of the event meant the identity needed to work just as effectively on a social media tile as it did across a full international court. Our design team created a consistent visual system that could move across every format while retaining its energy and impact.

Marketing the FAST5 Netball World Series

As the official marketing agency, Papiermache developed and managed the wider marketing strategy for the series. The campaign needed to build awareness, explain what made FAST5 different and generate excitement around an international event featuring the world’s leading netball nations. Our work spanned:

  • Marketing strategy and management

  • Advertising campaigns

  • Social media management

  • Content planning and production

  • Creative direction

  • Graphic design

  • Photography and videography

The different elements were managed as one connected campaign, with each channel helping to build familiarity, anticipation and interest in the event.

Creating content around the action

FAST5 creates an enormous amount of energy both on and off the court. Papiermache captured that through photography, videography and social content designed to bring audiences closer to the event. The content programme extended beyond match results. It captured the athletes, personalities, atmosphere, entertainment and moments that made the series distinctive. This gave supporters a view into the full FAST5 experience, whether they were attending in Christchurch or following the tournament from elsewhere. It also created a strong library of content that could support live coverage, promotional activity, event partners and future campaigns.

Managing international and local partnerships

Delivering an event of this scale required close collaboration across multiple organisations. Papiermache managed key relationships with World Netball and ChristchurchNZ, helping connect the international event requirements with local delivery and promotion.

Partnership and stakeholder management formed a central part of the work. It required clear communication, careful coordination and an understanding of the different commercial, brand and audience objectives involved. Our role was not only to produce the marketing activity, but to help ensure the event was represented consistently across the organisations and partners supporting it.

Showcasing Christchurch on the world stage

Hosting the FAST5 Netball World Series gave Christchurch the opportunity to welcome leading international teams, athletes and supporters. For three years, the city became the home of one of netball’s most distinctive international events. The series helped showcase Christchurch as a capable, energetic host city while giving local audiences the opportunity to experience international netball in a different format. For Papiermache, it was especially rewarding to support a major global sporting event in our home city.

A full-service sports marketing partnership

The FAST5 Netball World Series brought together the full breadth of Papiermache’s capabilities.

Project scope:

  • Partnership and stakeholder management

  • Marketing strategy and management

  • Social media management

  • Content generation

  • Advertising

  • Creative direction and branding

  • Graphic design

  • Photography and videography

From shaping the event identity to promoting the series and capturing the action as it unfolded, our team worked across the complete audience journey. It was a fast-moving, collaborative project that required strategic thinking, strong creative and detailed delivery — all working together around one international event.

A proud chapter for Papiermache

Working on behalf of World Netball to bring the FAST5 Netball World Series to New Zealand was a significant opportunity for Papiermache. It allowed our team to combine international event marketing with local knowledge, sporting expertise and creative delivery across a wide-ranging scope. To see the event come to life in Christchurch – from the first campaign assets through to the branded court, packed venue and live action – was something we were incredibly proud to be part of.
